The Australian Bureau of Statistics says the number of Australians reporting online news stories increased by 5 per cent in the month of September.
The ABS says a rise in online news articles and social media has contributed to a rise of 3.5 million online news reports per day in September.
“Online news stories have also been an important factor in the growth in social media consumption,” the ABS says.
“These reports have increased more than 30 per cent since March 2014.”
